Boat insurance
For lovers of the sea, boats are valuable assets that allow them to enjoy the beauty of being out on the water. If you own a vessel the law requires you to have an insurance policy with the following forms of cover:
Third party liability for:
- Bodily harm and/or death of passengers and third parties per accident and overall for the entire duration of insurance up to € 500,000
- Bodily harm to third parties per passenger up to € 50,000
- Material damage to passengers and third parties per accident and overall for the entire duration of insurance up to € 150,000
- Causing marine pollution during accidents and overall for the entire duration of insurance up to € 150,000.
The categories of vessel which can be insured include:
- Speed boats
- Yachts
- Jet Skis
- Touring vessels
- Canoes, sailboards, kiteboards, sea bicycles
If you want to have more rounded insurance cover for your vessel then you need to look at fully comprehensive insurance. This is an ‘All Risk’ policy which covers the vessel itself, its machinery and equipment for damage and losses caused to it. Just some of the risks covered are:
- Marine risks
- Impact, collision, grounding
- Fire, explosion
- Theft of entire vessel
- Earthquake, lightning, piracy
- Malicious acts
- Rescue expenses
- Outboard motors falling into the sea
- Impact damage to the axle and propeller
The vessel is covered when at sea, when berthed, when out of the sea in a protected area and also when being transported by road.
